Bread of Freedom, vol. 2 is a comic book by Paweł Piechnik, to be published by the Jesuit Cultural Center Foundation VINEA in the second half of 2024. The album is based on the testimonies of various people whom the author has interviewed over the past decade.

The author also used excerpts from an interview by journalist Wojciech Jankowski with Ukrainian female soldiers from Mariupol, as well as a fragment from Marta Przybyła’s book I Will Give You a New Heart. The comic includes a short afterword written together with Marta Łuczak, focusing on broadly understood social and moral values.

The phrase “bread of freedom” was used by prisoners in concentration camps during World War II. It referred to bread baked outside the camp and was a symbol of longing for home.

The author reflects on what “bread of freedom” means today and what freedom represents in the world beyond the wires.
